Candace M. Murphy, Director
At 15, she transferred to the New Orleans Academy of the Arts where her primary instructor was Greer Goff. While at the Academy, she continued with her study of ballet and jazz, she also incorporated African dancing into her repertoire. She continued with the Academy until her college years. During this time, she also danced competitively. While in college, Candace became a certified aerobics instructor and began instructing adult exercise classes for women. She instructed classes in aerobics and was also a health advisor for a women’s health spa. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, Candace eventually moved to Atlanta. Upon her return to New Orleans, in 1995, she enrolled in Loyola Law School and returned to her passion of dancing. She accepted a position with Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church as their Praise Dance coordinator and youth minister. In that role, she instructed and ministered to girls from the ages of 3-20. She was not only their dance instructor, but a role model and friend. Her groups at St. Francis de Sales received many accolades and were invited to dance at many functions around the city. She continued with St. Francis until 2005 when she relocated to Dallas. Also upon returning to New Orleans, she accepted a position in the TKD Dance Company, a local dance company. In that role, she exposed school children, as well as the community in general to the cultural arts through performing in various arenas. For two consecutive years (2003-2004), she also worked with curriculum development and taught classes such as: Ballet I, Ballet II and hip-hop with the National Praise Dance Convention which was held at Tulane University in New Orleans. Candace now seeks to continue in dance education with the U Can-DANCE concept. She is especially excited about the program because of both, its on site and off-site instruction, which we call our “portable dance program.” Her concept is simple: “At U Can-DANCE, everyone WILL dance!” Candace looks forward to the opportunity to share and educate your children in the wonderful world of dance and the fine arts.
